Police arrests, baton charges protesting teachers in Karachi

KARACHI: A number of National Testing Service-passed teachers holding a sit-in protest at the metropolis’ Burns Road, demanding to be regularised without further delay, were arrested and baton-charged by the police on Wednesday.

The government teachers took to the streets demanding the Sindh government to regularise them without the condition of giving re-test of NTS as they have already completed three-year of their services as per the contract.

Police also arrested female teachers and used water cannons to disperse the protestors.

Initially, the teachers planned to hold a protest at the Sindh Secretariat, later they changed their plan of action by staging a sit-in at the Burns Road.

No government official has yet approached the protesting teachers to hold dialogue on the bitter stalemate.
